Moorside Inn is the only inn in Morthal, a converted house in the misty marsh town of Hjaalmarch. It is famously empty – the innkeeper herself admits business just isn’t there – which makes it a calm place to rent a bed for 10 gold, listen to some questionable ballads and pick up a quest about the town’s burned-out house.
What you’ll find
- Jonna, the innkeeper, sister of the wizard Falion. The siblings came from Hammerfell and have travelled together all their lives; when something drew Falion to Morthal, Jonna turned one of the homes into the town’s first inn.
- Lurbuk, an Orc bard whose singing tests the patience of every guest. Jonna appreciates anyone who can put up with him.
- Several rentable rooms and virtually no loitering customers – a rarity among Skyrim’s inns.
- A sign that looks like the crest of Sentinel with a moon on the right, a nod to Jonna’s homeland.
Quests
- Laid to Rest – ask Jonna about the burned house to begin the investigation into Morthal’s dark secret.
- Contract: Kill Lurbuk – a Dark Brotherhood contract targeting the bard himself. Some players consider it a public service.
- The Dark Brotherhood Forever – a later target can be found here. Killing him unseen is tricky, but when he sits on a bench a single arrow or bolt to the head reportedly does the job quietly.
Notable items
- Restoration skill book Racial Phylogeny in a woven basket on a dresser in one of the rooms.
Tips
Grab the skill book while you are renting a room so you’re not sneaking around for it. With so few patrons around, this is one of the easiest inns to do quiet Dark Brotherhood work in – just mind Jonna behind the counter. If Lurbuk is mid-song, consider that your cue to head upstairs and sleep.
Good to know
Jonna grumbles that the front door hardly gets any use. Given Morthal’s fog, swamp and vampire troubles, it’s not hard to see why tourists stay away.
