Breezehome is the cosy wooden house right next to Warmaiden’s and the main gate in Whiterun. For most players it’s the first home they ever buy – it costs 5000 gold and can be unlocked very early. It looks like every other house in town, which is honestly part of its charm.
How to get it
- Buy it from Proventus Avenicci once Jarl Balgruuf lets you purchase property – possible right after you bring back the Dragonstone in Bleak Falls Barrow.
- If Whiterun falls to the Stormcloaks, Brill sells it instead.
- Upgrades are only sold in the dining room of Dragonsreach, not on the porch.
- Becoming Thane of Whiterun adds a guest room and moves Lydia in as your housecarl.
What you’ll find
Upgrades total 1800 gold:
- Living Room (250) – weapon racks, bookshelf, cupboard.
- Dining Room (250) – long table, bench, cupboard and shelves.
- Kitchen (300) – fire pit and cooking pot.
- Loft (200) – shelf, weapon plaque, cupboard.
- Bedroom (300) – dresser, chest, end tables, shield plaque.
- Alchemy Laboratory (500) – alchemy lab and apothecary’s satchel.
- Children’s Bedroom (500, Hearthfire) – replaces the alchemy lab so adopted kids can move in.
Displays include two weapon racks, two weapon plaques, a shield plaque and four bookshelves holding 58 books.
Tips
- Breezehome is the only home without an enchanter or a mannequin; for enchanting you’ll be trotting up to Dragonsreach.
- It’s great for smiths: Warmaiden’s and the Skyforge are a short walk away.
- Thieves take note: the local fence, Mallus Maccius, ends up at Honningbrew Meadery after Dampened Spirits, outside the walls.
- Decorating a room clears out cobwebs and boxes.
- If you skip talking to Lydia when she appears in Dragonsreach, she won’t move in – handy if you prefer living alone.
- During Diplomatic Immunity, Delphine takes your house key; it’s waiting in a chest at the Sleeping Giant Inn.
Good to know
Adopted kids here may mention the sad state of the Gildergreen until The Blessings of Nature is done, and talk about playing with Lucia. Spouses like the city for children but grumble that the house is a bit small. Fair.
