Draugr Overlord

The Draugr Overlord is a boss-grade draugr that guards Nordic tombs at lower levels, swinging ancient Nord weapons and using shouts like Unrelenting Force.

The Draugr Overlord is one of the stronger ranks of draugr, the undead Nords who sleep in Skyrim’s burial halls. It typically acts as a boss or guardian in dungeons full of draugr. Overlords have the Voice: alongside their ancient blades and axes they can shout you off your feet.

Its base level is listed as 7, with 210 health and 260 stamina, but its record allows it to scale up to level 100, so the exact challenge depends on when you meet it.

Variants

  • Melee Overlord – carries an ancient Nord sword, axe or similar weapon, sometimes enchanted, and may hold an iron shield.
  • Archer Overlord – fights with a bow and has a higher health pool than the melee type.

Where to find them

Overlords appear in most draugr-infested dungeons while you are roughly level 1 to 21. After that, they are generally replaced by the draugr wight lord. Some dungeons swap them out sooner – at Arcwind Point, for example, the switch happens after level 6. Higher up the ladder you’ll meet the draugr deathlord, and in the Dragonborn add-on the brutish hulking draugr.

Notes

  • Overlords fight with ancient Nord weapons, which are sometimes enchanted.
  • They can use Unrelenting Force and Disarm.
  • Just as with deathlords, Overlord archers have more health than the sword-and-axe types – take them out early when a room fills up.
  • The Overlord is listed as Very Aggressive and gains an extra 10 damage on its attacks.

Abilities & attacks

  • Ancient Nord weapons (sometimes enchanted), +10 damage
  • Shouts: Unrelenting Force, Disarm
  • Some Overlords use bows

How to beat it

Overlords hit hard and shout, so keep moving sideways rather than standing in front of them when they draw breath. Staggering one mid-shout interrupts it, but it will simply try again, so follow up immediately. Skip frost and poison – they barely work – and use fire, shock or plain steel instead. In crowded chambers kill the archers first, as they have more health than the melee draugr and wear you down from range.
