Crescius Caerellius is an elderly Imperial miner living in Raven Rock on Solstheim (Dragonborn). He is almost eighty, a third-generation miner, and convinced that the East Empire Company has been hiding something in the local mine for two centuries. Everyone else thinks he is a crazy old man. He would like a word with everyone else.
Where to find them
He spends most of his time down in Raven Rock Mine, usually arguing with his wife Aphia Velothi, who is tired of him risking his neck in the tunnels. His family home has stood in Raven Rock since the colony was founded.
Quests
- The Final Descent – Crescius hands you a key and an unsent letter left by his great-grandfather, Gratian Caerellius, who died in the mine nearly 200 years ago. Your job is to find Gratian’s journal. The ‘rockfall’ turns out to be a cover story to keep people away from what lay below, and Crescius gets the vindication he has wanted all his life, plus a small reward for you.
- It’s All In The Taste – he is one of the residents who gets a free sample of Geldis Sadri‘s new sujamma.
- An Axe to Find – Glover Mallory wants his Ancient Nordic Pickaxe back from Crescius. The old miner grumbles that a mining tool belongs with a mining family, and you can either take it or let him keep it.
Personality & relationships
Crescius is gruff and suspicious of strangers, mostly because people stopped taking him seriously long ago. Underneath he is loyal and sentimental: he credits Aphia with keeping him alive, and he once spent his savings sending his mother home to the Imperial City. His grandfather Rellicus also worked the mine before he was killed by reavers. Crescius believes he may be the last Imperial on the island, and he insists Solstheim still holds plenty of ebony ore – he claims he can smell it.
Once the mine reopens he becomes its foreman, and he says councilor Lleril Morvayn has given you free rein to dig as much ebony as you can carry. Best of all, Aphia no longer scolds him for going down there.
Good to know
Ask him about Miraak during the main Dragonborn story and he finds the name strangely familiar, mumbling about the Earth Stone and a shrine.
