Wolf Pelt is the unofficial currency of Skyrim’s roads: every wolf pack that ambushes you leaves a few behind. It is worth 10 gold, weighs only 1 and tans into 1
Leather. Not glamorous, but endlessly available for Hide Armor and leather strips, and light enough to carry a stack to the nearest trader.
How to get it
Kill wolves – they roam almost everywhere, usually in packs of two or three, and they will find you long before you find them. Hunters and Orc hunters carry pelts too, and general goods merchants such as Belethor and Camilla Valerius sell them.
Loose pelts lie in Faldar’s Tooth (3), and in Narzulbur, Greenspring Hollow and Fort Greymoor (2 each), with singles in Cracked Tusk Keep, Largashbur and Broken Oar Grotto. The Animal Pelt Collection quest also asks for them.
Tanning a wolf pelt gives just 1 Leather, the same as the pelt’s weight in leather, so early on it makes sense to tan them in bulk at the first rack you pass. Later in the game, when you have bear and sabre cat pelts to spare, wolf pelts are mostly vendor fodder.
