Reachwind Eyrie is a lonely, ornate Dwemer tower perched on a high cliff edge, looking out over the Karth River valley. You’ll find it southeast of Markarth and just northeast of the Orc stronghold of Dushnikh Yal. There’s no dungeon crawl here – it’s a quiet stop for a skill book, a couple of locked chests and a pile of Dwarven scrap that any smith will happily turn into ingots.
What you’ll find
- A small tower interior with a stone table and an adept-level locked chest.
- An outdoor overlook with a second chest, this one behind an expert lock, plus another Dwemer artifact and a leveled sword lying on the ground.
- Roughly twenty Dwemer artifacts scattered around. About half of them can be smelted, adding up to around twenty-six Dwarven metal ingots, not counting the odd bonus piece hiding in the three Dwemer containers.
- A Pine Thrush Egg resting on the ground on the overlook.
- At higher levels, a Dwarven spider may show up to defend the place.
Notable items
- Chimarvamidium – Heavy Armor skill book, sitting on the stone table inside the tower.
- Expert-locked leveled chest on the overlook.
Tips
Bring an empty pack and a few lockpicks. The artifacts are heavy, so if you’re already hauling half of Skyrim’s cheese supply, drop something first. Pair the trip with a visit to Dushnikh Yal, where the guards may even point you towards the tower if you ask around, and smelt the haul at the stronghold’s forge or back in Markarth. If you’re planning Heavy Armor or Smithing builds, this is one of the easier free skill bumps in the area.
Good to know
Some players have wondered whether this is the lost tower of Gauldur. It probably isn’t: the old notes say Gauldur was buried where his tower once stood, and the Eyrie is still standing proudly. Ruins such as Reachwater Rock, surrounded by crumbled Nordic towers, fit that description much better.
