Rift Stormcloak Camp is a field camp of the Stormcloaks, set in the forested country northwest of Riften, west of the Rift Watchtower. It’s part of the Civil War machinery, commanded by Gonnar Oath-Giver with a squad of unnamed soldiers under him. How warmly you’re received depends entirely on which side of the war you’ve picked.
What you’ll find

- A Stormcloak Quartermaster and several Stormcloak soldiers.
- An alchemy lab, anvil, grindstone and workbench.
- A chest you’re free to take items from.

Quests
The camp plays its part in the Civil War questline. Side with the Stormcloaks (see Joining the Stormcloaks) and these are your allies; side with the Empire and the same soldiers turn into enemies.
Tips
If you haven’t already done so, check the tabletop map – reading it adds new map data to your own. The crafting stations make this a decent pit stop for sharpening a blade, tweaking armor or brewing a potion while you’re travelling around Riften. If you’re on the Imperial side, approach with care: the soldiers will be hostile, though after an Imperial victory they at least warn you before attacking. Gonnar himself becomes essential at that point, so don’t waste your arrows trying to finish him off. For Stormcloak recruits, on the other hand, the camp is a friendly base close to Riften where you can sharpen, restock and plan your next move without paying a single septim for the privilege.

A rebel camp with a free chest and a free map. Ulfric runs a generous war effort, as long as you’re on his side of it.
