In chapter six of A Dance in Fire, the clerk Decumus Scotti finally catches up with Liodes Jurus, his old colleague from the Imperial City – much fatter and very much not dead. Jurus is furious that Scotti missed their meeting, until he learns how far the clerk has come on his own. It turns out Scotti has already talked his way into an audience with the Silvenar.
Skill book
A Dance in Fire, v6 is a Speech skill book. The first time you read a copy, your Speech skill goes up by one point – later copies of the same title don’t give anything extra, so there is no need to carry them around.
Notes
Scotti’s whole arc is about a mild clerk succeeding through talk alone, which is why the later chapters are Speech books.
