Nettlebane

The hagravens’ root-patterned sacrificial dagger, needed to cut the Eldergleam.

Nettlebane is a strange, root-patterned dagger forged by hagravens to sacrifice spriggans – and the only blade old enough to cut the bark of the Eldergleam.

How to get it

During “The Blessings of Nature”, Danica Pure-Spring of Whiterun needs sap from the Eldergleam to restore the Gildergreen. She sends you to Orphan Rock, where a hagraven is sacrificing spriggans with Nettlebane, protected by hags and witches. Take the dagger, bring it to Danica, and she sends you on to Eldergleam Sanctuary.

Using it

As a weapon, it’s underwhelming: 6 damage, a hefty weight of 10, a value of 5 – and it deals no extra damage to spriggans. It can’t be enchanted either.

Smithing

Ebony Ingot at a grindstone, but no Smithing perk improves it.

Tip

Asta at the Eldergleam warns you not to harm the tree. If you do use Nettlebane on it, expect a spriggan ambush on your way out.
