Bolar’s Oathblade is a Blades sword left behind by Acilius Bolar, one of the Blades who escaped the Thalmor’s attack on Cloud Ruler Temple – and the last thing he did before meeting his end.
Background
Bolar laid his blade and a written oath, Bolar’s Writ, at the foot of a Shrine of Talos before going out to face the Thalmor hunting him. The writ suggests he hoped his death would lead them away before they found the shrine.
How to get it
It’s in Bloated Man’s Grotto, beneath the Shrine of Talos together with Bolar’s Writ.
Enchantment
25 points of stamina damage, and creatures and people up to level 12 flee for 30 seconds. The charge is tiny – roughly four hits per full charge – but even uncharged it’s as strong as an Elven sword, which is handy early on.
Smithing
Quicksilver Ingot (Arcane Blacksmith); benefits from Steel Smithing.
Fun quirk: some NPCs say “Be careful with that fire” when you carry it, though it has no fire enchantment.
