Balgruuf’s Greatsword is a steel greatsword forged by Adrianne Avenicci for Jarl Balgruuf – and one of the first deliveries many players make in Whiterun.

Adrianne asks you to bring the sword to her father, Proventus Avenicci, the Jarl’s steward in Dragonsreach.
Keeping it
A few ways players have kept it:
- When handing it in, quickly leave the dialogue and check Proventus’s inventory – you can take it back, but it stays marked stolen.
- With Dawnguard installed, waiting too long can get Adrianne killed by vampires; the sword can then be looted from her.
