Soljund’s Sinkhole (quest)

The miners at Soljund’s Sinkhole broke into a Nordic crypt full of draugr. Clear them out so Perth can reopen his mine.

The miners of Soljund’s Sinkhole in the Reach dug a little too deep and ended up in an old Nordic crypt. Now the tunnels are full of draugr and nobody is mining anything. Perth will gladly pay someone braver than him to clear the place out.

How to start

Talk to Perth, who usually stands outside the mine entrance. He warns you the mine is crawling with draugr, and the quest begins. Get the quest from him before going inside, because clearing the mine first can stop the quest from working properly.

Walkthrough

The upper mine

The upper part of the mine holds three draugr. Further in, a large hole drops into the crypt below. Jump down and aim for the pole halfway down to break the fall and avoid damage.

The crypt

Three draugr wake up at the bottom of the hole, and a fourth shows up a little later. Around the corner is a room with three levers and a blocked passage. Either of the two outer levers opens the barrier; the middle one sends a shower of poison darts at you. Up the stairs, a trap waits just inside the hallway.

Past the iron door are more draugr. A chest sits in the water under the bridge, and a ramp on the left side lets you climb back out. Right after the next iron door is another trap. A side passage on the right leads to a small room with a chest.

The boss chamber

The main caves lead to the final chamber. The boss depends on your level: either a high-level draugr or a dragon priest. Watch the two statues behind the altar. The left one shoots fireballs and the right one heals the boss, so fight away from them or take them into account. Once the boss is dead, take the passage on the left to leave, picking up a leveled sword on the right along the way.

Report to Perth

Head outside and tell Perth the draugr are dead to collect your reward.

Rewards

Perth pays a leveled amount of gold:

  • Level 1-9: 400 gold
  • Level 10-19: 600 gold
  • Level 20-29: 800 gold
  • Level 30-39: 1000 gold
  • Level 40+: 1200 gold

You also keep the loot from the crypt, including the leveled sword near the exit.

Tips and notes

  • Since the gold scales with level, waiting until level 40 gives three times the payout of doing it at level 1.
  • If you cleared the mine before Perth gave you the quest and he will not accept it, waiting about 10 in-game days lets the draugr respawn. Then take the quest from him and clear it again.

Objectives

Clear Soljund’s Sinkhole of Draugr
Tell Perth that the Draugr are dead

Walkthrough

Choices & consequences

Known bugs & fixes

Perth can stay inside his house after the draugr are dead and refuse to talk, blocking completion. Clearing the mine before getting the quest can make it impossible to finish; waiting 10 days for a respawn and then taking the quest fixes it.
