Anga’s Mill

Small lumber mill on the Yorgrim River west of Windhelm, run by Aeri, where you can sell firewood, buy Hearthfire lumber and find a Speech skill book.

Anga’s Mill is a quiet little lumber mill on the banks of the Yorgrim River, a short way west of Windhelm. Three buildings make up the whole place: Aeri’s House, the Anga’s Mill Common House and the mill itself. It is not a dungeon and nobody here wants to stab you – which, in this part of Skyrim, counts as a selling point. Come for honest woodcutting money, a skill book and a couple of side jobs.

What you’ll find

  • The residents Aeri (who owns the mill), Kodrir and Leifur. Aeri is also one of the people you can marry.
  • Two Woodcutter’s Axes lying next to Aeri’s house, plus a wood chopping block and a grindstone near the mill.
  • Two iron ore veins: one across the river to the south and one just west of the mill along the riverbank.
  • A small camp to the west with a single tent, a usable bedroll and a campfire. Look for a locked strongbox under the nearby waterfall, a chest half-buried in the ground, a possible leveled weapon and a hidden quicksilver ingot.
  • The Headless Horseman starts his ghostly ride here and heads off toward Forsaken Cave.

Quests

  • Contract: Kill Ennodius Papius – this Dark Brotherhood target is camping on a bedroll up by the waterfall near the mill.
  • Delivery – Aeri needs a note about her latest shipment taken to Jarl Skald the Elder in Dawnstar.

Tips

Early on, grabbing an axe and chopping firewood for Aeri is one of the least dangerous ways to earn some gold – nothing bites back except your patience. With Hearthfire installed, the mill also sells lumber that gets delivered straight to your homestead, so you can skip a lot of chopping later. Mine the two iron veins while you’re here and use the grindstone to sharpen whatever you just smithed. If you’re running Dark Brotherhood contracts, the Ennodius Papius job and the waterfall camp’s loot are practically next door to each other. One odd quirk: fast travelling here occasionally drops you from high up in the air, so save first if you value your knees.
