Viinturuth is one of the named dragons of Skyrim, a leveled foe whose name translates roughly as “Shine–Hammer–Rage”. Like several of his kin he gets a second life courtesy of Alduin, who calls him out of his burial mound in front of the Dragonborn. He is aggressive, and whether he greets you with fire or with ice depends on your level when you meet him. Around other dragons he speaks in the dragon tongue.
Where to find them
Viinturuth’s burial mound lies west of Anga’s Mill in the Pale. The resurrection normally takes place during Elder Knowledge, after you have learned where the Elder Scroll is hidden. Alduin stays out of the fight that follows and leaves Viinturuth to deal with you alone. A chest with leveled loot, locked at Apprentice level, sits close to the mound, so check it once the dragon is down.
If you defeat Alduin before visiting the site, one of two things happens: Viinturuth is already alive and roaming the nearby mountains, or he stays in his mound. Neither outcome changes anything important about the encounter.
Notes
Defeating him yields Dragon Bones and Dragon Scales, along with a dragon soul for unlocking Words of Power. Because he is leveled, a low-level character will face a weaker, fire-breathing version, while a seasoned adventurer gets a tougher frost-breathing one; the source gives no fixed level or health figures. His encounter is also known for being glitch-prone, with reports of him getting stuck in the mound or reappearing later, so it is worth saving before you approach the burial site.
