Valdr is a Nord hunter from Falkreath whom you’ll find slumped on a log outside Moss Mother Cavern, badly hurt and calling for help. He and his friends Ari and Niels tracked a bear into the cave, cornered it, and were then ambushed by three spriggans. His friends didn’t make it out.
Where to find them
Outside Moss Mother Cavern, until his quest is done. Afterwards he goes home and can be found in Dead Man’s Drink in Falkreath, where he greets you warmly but has nothing more to offer.
Quests
Hunter and Hunted – first you need to heal him, either with a healing potion or a spell such as Healing Hands. Once he can stand again, he refuses to leave his friends’ bodies to the spriggans. You can bring him along or tell him to wait while you clear the cave alone. When the spriggans are dead he gives you Valdr’s Lucky Dagger, a gift from Ari from when they first started hunting together, and says he’ll bury his friends before heading back to town.
Personality & relationships
Valdr is a down-to-earth hunter who admits he never believed spriggans were real until they wiped out his party. He’s grateful, slightly stunned that a stranger would risk their life for him, and invites you to visit him in Falkreath – even though he doesn’t actually have a house there.
Good to know
- If you clear the cave without healing him first, you’ll find him dead when you come back out.
- He can sometimes turn hostile during or after the quest; a Calm spell or scroll can buy you enough time to finish it.
