Mogrul is an Orc moneylender in Raven Rock on Solstheim (Dragonborn). He lends coin, collects it with interest and makes sure everyone knows what happens to people who don’t pay. He is also the only Orc on the whole island, which suits his whole lone-wolf act.
Where to find them
He strolls around the marketplace during the day and spends evenings relaxing at The Retching Netch. His bodyguard Slitter is always right behind him. Mogrul wears tavern clothes and carries an Orcish war axe.
Quests
Mogrul is behind A New Debt. If you send Drovas Relvi to work for Neloth in Reluctant Steward, Mogrul tracks you down: Drovas owed him 1,000 septims and is now out of reach in a Telvanni tower, so in Mogrul’s eyes the debt is yours. You have a few options:
- Pay up and he sends you off.
- Pass an intimidation check and he settles for half.
- Stall, and he sends collectors after you until you pay. You can also ask Drovas himself for part of the money.
- Threaten him, and he reminds you that the guards will put the bounty on you, not him.
Personality & relationships
Mogrul is rude, blunt and not interested in being liked. He tells strangers to stay out of his business, says he never lends to people he doesn’t know, and openly doesn’t care what you think of him. Ask him about Miraak and the tough-guy act slips a little: he vaguely remembers a temple on the island and feels strange just thinking about it.
Good to know
He can’t be killed until the debt quest starts; before that he just drops to one knee and warns you not to try it again. If you pay him, you may be able to pickpocket the gold back if you’re quick. Leading him and Slitter out of town before the confrontation lets you deal with them without the guards getting involved.
