Arngeir

Arngeir is one of the four Greybeards of High Hrothgar, the ancient masters of the Voice. He is the one who does the talking: the other Greybeards’ voices are so powerful that ordinary speech is dangerous, so Arngeir acts as their spokesman and as your teacher.

Teacher of the Voice

When the Greybeards summon you in The Way of the Voice, Arngeir greets you, tests your Thu’um and guides you through your training with Einarth and Borri. Afterwards he sends you on your final trial, The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller. He has trained others before, too – including Ulfric Stormcloak, whom the Greybeards are not exactly proud of.

Personality

Calm, patient and deeply devoted to the Way of the Voice, Arngeir believes the Thu’um should be used for worship and inner understanding, not for war. That puts him at odds with some of the people you meet later in the main quest, and he is not shy about saying so.

Good to know

Arngeir can usually be found meditating in High Hrothgar, sleeping in its western wing or walking the courtyard behind the monastery. After your training, he can help you unlock shouts you have learned.
