Stormcloak Armor is the rough, blue-trimmed light armor worn by the soldiers of Ulfric Stormcloak‘s rebellion. It comes in two grades: the basic soldier’s kit (with plain Fur Gauntlets and Fur Boots) and the sturdier Stormcloak Officer set. Both are early-game protection, with the regular uniform close to Hide Armor and the officer kit roughly matching Leather Armor.
How to get it
None of it can be forged, so you’ll have to earn or loot it. The very first chance comes in Unbound: if you follow Ralof out of Helgen, players report you can take the gear of a fallen Stormcloak, giving you the basic uniform before you’ve even seen a sword.
Signing up through Joining the Stormcloaks in Windhelm under Galmar Stone-Fist is the roleplay route. Otherwise, every Stormcloak soldier you fight on the Imperial side of the civil war is a potential supplier, and the officer pieces can be acquired a few different ways, including from Stormcloak officers at camps and forts.
Is it worth wearing?
Not for the numbers. The basic set totals 41 armor rating for a hefty 14 weight, which is poor for light armor. The officer set improves that to 53 armor at the same weight, roughly Leather level but twice as heavy as Elven Armor. Everything can be tempered with leather, and the matching pieces do qualify for Matching Set.
The real reason to wear it is loyalty. If you’re marching into the Battle for Whiterun on Ulfric’s side, the blue sash simply looks right.
Good to know
- No piece of Stormcloak Armor can be crafted, but all can be improved with leather.
- The basic set’s gloves and boots are named Fur Gauntlets and Fur Boots.
- There is a second version of the Stormcloak Cuirass with sleeves, same stats.
- The officer set is the stronger version, with a bear-themed helmet.
