Wuuthrad is the legendary axe of Ysgramor, founder of the Companions. Its name means “Storm’s Tears” in the language of Atmora – according to the Songs of the Return, it was hewn from Ysgramor’s sorrow on the voyage from Saarthal.
How to get it
The axe was shattered long ago. In the Companions questline you recover its fragments from the Silver Hand, and Eorlund Gray-Mane reforges it at the Skyforge for Glory of the Dead. You use it to open the way in Ysgramor’s Tomb – and you can take it straight back off the statue afterwards.
Stats
25 damage, 25 weight, 2,000 gold. That’s top-tier base damage for a battleaxe.
Especially deadly to Elves
Wuuthrad deals 1.2× damage to Altmer, Bosmer, Dunmer and Falmer. It’s an innate effect rather than an enchantment, so you can add your own enchantment at an arcane enchanter, and Elemental Fury still works.
Smithing
It can’t be improved at a grindstone.
Looks
A long two-headed axe with a sharp spike on top – and a screaming elf carved into the head, just in case the message wasn’t clear.
