Skyrim Special Edition Update Raises Console Mod Storage

Bethesda's August 2026 update for Skyrim Special Edition increases mod storage on consoles and brings Creation Club quality-of-life tweaks.

Fifteen years after release, Skyrim is still getting patched. On August 20, 2026, Bethesda pushed a surprise update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition.

What changed

  • More mod storage on consoles – the headline change, and good news for anyone running a long load order on Xbox or PlayStation.
  • Creation Club quality-of-life improvements.

Will it break my mods?

That was the first question on many players’ minds. Bethesda said the update should not affect load orders, but recommended that players log into their save games if they haven’t played in a while, just as a precaution.

Our tip: before any Skyrim update, make a manual save and note down your load order. If something does break, it’s much easier to fix.
