Septimus Signus

Septimus Signus is an elderly Imperial scholar who lives alone in a cramped outpost on the ice north of the College of Winterhold. He used to be a member of the College, wrote the book Ruminations on the Elder Scrolls, and then read one of the Scrolls himself. It did not do wonders for his sanity.

Elder Knowledge

In the main quest, Urag gro-Shub points you to Septimus as the one person likely to know where an Elder Scroll can be found. In Elder Knowledge he sends you to the Dwemer ruin of Alftand – and down into Blackreach – with a Lexicon, a Dwemer device that lets you read a Scroll safely.

Discerning the Transmundane

Septimus is obsessed with a sealed Dwemer lockbox he believes holds the Heart of Lorkhan. To open it he needs the blood of every elven race – Orsimer, Falmer, Bosmer, Altmer and Dunmer – and he asks you to collect it. The Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora has his own interest in what lies inside.
