The World-Eater’s Eyrie

The World-Eater's Eyrie: ride Odahviing to Skuldafn, fight through the dragon temple, defeat the dragon priest Nahkriin and open the portal to Sovngarde.

Objectives

  1. Set Odahviing free
  2. Talk to Odahviing
  3. Reach Alduin's portal to Sovngarde
  4. Enter Sovngarde

The World-Eater’s Eyrie is the point of no return in Skyrim’s main quest. You set Odahviing free, climb on his back and fly to Skuldafn – an ancient dragon temple high in the Velothi Mountains, where Alduin has opened a portal to Sovngarde.

Before you go

Prepare carefully. Once Odahviing drops you at Skuldafn, there is no fast travel and no way back until you have finished Sovngarde and Dragonslayer. Bring healing potions, filled soul gems for enchanted weapons and room in your bags for loot. Followers cannot come with you.

Walkthrough

Setting Odahviing free

Pull the chain on the Great Porch of Dragonsreach (or ask the guard to do it). Odahviing keeps his word and flies you to Skuldafn.

Skuldafn

The temple grounds are guarded by draugr and dragons. Fight your way up the stone stairs and terraces to the temple itself. Dragonrend is your best friend here.

Inside the temple

The temple has the usual Nordic ruin challenges: rotating pillar puzzles, traps, more draugr – and a Word Wall with a word of Storm Call. Near the end you need the Diamond Claw to open the final claw door; the combination is on its palm.

Nahkriin

At the top waits Nahkriin, a dragon priest guarding the portal. Defeat him and take his staff and his mask.

The portal

Place Nahkriin’s staff in the mechanism in front of the portal. The portal opens – step through to enter Sovngarde, which starts Sovngarde.

Rewards

  • Nahkriin (dragon priest mask)
  • Word of Storm Call

Tips

  • Conjured creatures still work here, so a summoner has company even without followers.
  • Loot everything – Skuldafn has some of the best treasure in the main quest.
