Wreck of The Winter War

Bandit-held shipwreck off the Winterhold coast north of Yngol Barrow, with three chests, a Lockpicking skill book and a rare view of Windhelm and the College.

The Wreck of the Winter War is a broken ship lying in the icy waters east of Snow Veil Sanctum and north of Yngol Barrow. It seems the ship went down trying to squeeze through the narrow passage into Windhelm‘s harbour, and now a band of bandits calls it home. Guards will point out its masts if you ask about the area.

What you’ll find

  • Bandits led by a Bandit Chief, with possibly one more lurking some way off.
  • Three chests, including a locked one and one underwater between the two halves of the wreck.
  • Washed-up cargo to the northeast of the wreck.
  • Clams underwater beneath the hull and a cooking spot on site.
  • An upturned small boat to the northwest, just off the fishing camp at Slaughterfish Bay.

Tips

Deal with the bandits before going for the underwater chest – fighting while swimming is nobody’s idea of fun. Afterwards, enjoy the view: on a clear day you can see both Windhelm and the College of Winterhold from here at the same time.
