Deep inside the bandit fort of Mistwatch in Eastmarch, a nervous farmer named Christer is hiding from the guards. He believes his wife Fjola was kidnapped by the bandits and begs you to find her. You will find her all right – she is the one running the place, and she has no intention of going home.
How to start
- Travel to Mistwatch. About four Mistwatch bandits guard the outside.
- Inside the fort, climb the steps on the left to the drawbridge, pull the lever to lower it, cross and enter the North Tower.
- In a small side room off the corridor you meet Christer, an older man in plain clothes. Agree to look for Fjola.
Walkthrough
1. Christer’s story
Christer explains that Fjola left their farm on errands months ago and never returned. He heard these bandits ransom captives, sneaked past the guards, and now cannot go any further. He admits he is not sure she is here, but the kidnappings started around when she vanished. He promises some coin and hands over the Mistwatch Key, which a guard dropped while he was hiding.
2. The North Tower
Go through the locked door and fight your way up; the bandits scale with your level. At the top, exit onto the roof and cross to the West Tower. A chest with loot waits just past the door.
3. The West Tower
The first floor has a large room with a cell holding a dead woman, guarded by two bandits who may be Bandit Marauders. A note on the table explains what happened to the captive. Clear the room, climb to the top, and cross the roof into the East Tower.
4. The East Tower and Fjola
Halfway up, a Bandit Leader blocks your way and demands to know who you are. Mention Fjola and her husband and she reveals that she is Fjola. She left Christer on purpose, came back to Skyrim, took over this gang and built it into something mercenaries from across the hold want to join. She would rather die than go back.
Now you decide how this ends (see below).
Choices and consequences
Help Fjola get rid of Christer
Ask her what to tell Christer and offer to send him away. She does not hate him and does not want him killed, just gone. She gives you her wedding band as proof and lets you keep it as thanks. From now on she is passive; if you still want her dead, a sneak attack is the safest move.
Back with Christer you have two lies to pick from:
- You found the ring but no sign of her: he takes heart that she was here, pays you the promised coin and leaves to keep searching.
- She is dead: he recognises the ring from their wedding day, is heartbroken, and tells you to keep it because he cannot bear it.
After he leaves, report to Fjola. She is glad to be rid of him, says she owes you and that you will meet again, and the quest completes.
Kill Fjola
Tell her this is pointless and attack. Loot the ring from her body. When you tell Christer you had to kill her, he flies into a rage and attacks, so you may have to kill him as well.
Rewards
- Fjola’s Wedding Band.
- Some gold from Christer if you tell him you found only the ring.
- Mistwatch Key and the loot in the fort’s chests.
Tips and notes
- After you show Christer the ring, Fjola appears in a nearby room. Even if you lead Christer to her, the two do not recognise each other.
- If Christer attacks you, sheathing your weapon can calm him down and reopen dialogue. The quest then asks you to report to Fjola, which is impossible if she is dead; killing Christer completes it anyway.
- The ending where Christer keeps searching is the gentlest for him, and still pays.
