Cultist Mask

The Cultist Mask is the faceless headgear worn by the followers of Miraak (Dragonborn). It is a heavy helmet with an armor rating of 17 and a weight of 5, and it carries no enchantment. This page also covers the matching Cultist Gloves, light gauntlets with an armor rating of 7. Together they make up the most recognisable parts of the cultist look.

How to get it

Both pieces are worn by every rank of cultist: Cultist, Cultist Adept, Master Cultist, Arch Cultist and Ascendant Cultist. That gives you a few chances to grab them:

• The first ambush. Some time after you start The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller, two cultists find you in a town or in the wild and attack. Loot them afterwards; their note starts the Dragonborn questline.
• Later encounters. More cultists show up in Skyrim and on Solstheim from time to time until Miraak is defeated.
• Miraak’s temple and the main quest. Cultists are regular enemies during the Dragonborn main questline.

Is it worth wearing?

As armor, the mask is modest. Seventeen points of heavy helmet with no magic attached will not beat a proper Dragon Priest mask, let alone Miraak’s own mask. The gloves are equally plain. Both can be improved, though: the mask with a Steel Ingot and the gloves with Leather, and an unenchanted piece is a clean base for your own enchantments.

The real draw is the creepy style. If you want to roleplay as one of Miraak’s faithful, this is the outfit.

Good to know

• The mask counts as heavy armor while the gloves count as light armor, so a mixed build is needed to get perk bonuses from both.
• Cultists respawn, so you can farm extra copies.

Pieces and versions

Improve it at a workbench with Leather or Steel Ingot.
