The Tumblerbane Gloves are a pair of unique light gauntlets tied to the Dark Brotherhood. They carry a single, very practical enchantment: lockpicking is 20% easier. According to UESP they are a special version of the Shrouded Armor gloves, so they fit right in with the assassin wardrobe.
How to get it
You will not find these gloves on a corpse or in a dungeon chest. They are placed in the Dawnstar Sanctuary, the Brotherhood’s new home after the old sanctuary goes up in flames.
- Progress the Dark Brotherhood questline until the family has moved into the Dawnstar Sanctuary (see Sanctuary).
- Once the sanctuary is yours, you can spend gold on refurbishing it.
- Buy the master bedroom upgrade. The gloves appear at the foot of the newly purchased bed.
In other words: interior design is the quest. Your fellow assassins, such as Nazir, get a nicer home out of it too.
Is it worth wearing?
With an armor rating of 7 and a weight of 2, the gloves are firmly in the light armor club. The real value is the enchantment. A 20% easier lockpick is a nice quality-of-life bonus for low-level characters, or for anyone who simply hates snapping picks on Master locks. Once your Lockpicking skill is high and you own the right perks, the bonus matters a lot less, and you will probably swap them for gloves that boost a combat skill.
If you are running a sneaky character that pairs Brotherhood work with a bit of burglary on the side, the Tumblerbane Gloves are a natural fit early on. Compare them with the gloves from the Thieves Guild Armor and the Nightingale Armor, which cover the same thief niche.
Good to know
- They only exist after you pay for the master bedroom upgrade; skipping the renovation means no gloves.
- There is just one pair in the game.
