Movarth’s Boots are unique light boots enchanted with Fortify Sneak, making you 15% better at creeping around. They belonged to Movarth, an old and particularly nasty vampire who has made his home in a cave north of Morthal.
How to get it
The boots are found in Movarth’s Lair, usually during the Morthal quest Laid to Rest.
- Start Laid to Rest by investigating the burned house in Morthal and speaking with Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone.
- The trail eventually leads you to Movarth’s Lair, where the vampire and his thralls are waiting.
- Defeat Movarth and look for the boots in the lair.
If you enter the lair before starting the quest, Movarth is replaced by a generic master vampire, so it is worth doing it the proper way. Bring some fire magic and a cure disease potion. Falion in Morthal is the man to see if you catch something worse.
Is it worth wearing?
For a sneak build in the early or mid game, sure. A 15% Sneak bonus is a decent start, the boots weigh 1, and they come with a great vampire-hunting story. The armor rating of 5 is very low, though, and stronger Fortify Sneak gear is easy to find or craft later, for example Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood armor. Many players use them until their own enchanted boots outshine them.
The quest around them is one of the better small stories in Skyrim, with a proper mystery, a creepy town and a satisfying showdown, so the boots feel earned. Just remember that a vampire lair is no place for sneaking alone at low level; Movarth hits hard, and his thralls do not leave you much room to hide.
Good to know
- Disenchanting them teaches Fortify Sneak if you do not already know it.
- Movarth’s Lair also holds a few skill books worth grabbing.
- The boots are one of the few rewards tied to Morthal’s vampire storyline.
