Pinefrost Tower

Fallen watchtower high in the western mountains near Northwatch Keep, now occupied by frost trolls or ice wraiths guarding a locked chest and a warm fire.

Pinefrost Tower is a collapsed watchtower perched on the western mountains far west of Solitude, a short distance from Northwatch Keep. Whoever lived here did not leave long ago: the fire is still burning and there is stew in the pot. The new tenants, however, are not the sort who cook. It is a small location, but worth a look if you are wandering the mountains in this corner of the map.

What you’ll find

  • Two leveled frost trolls or ice wraiths holding the tower.
  • The broken remains of the tower itself, with a fireplace that is still alight.
  • A pot of Venison Stew simmering above that fire.
  • Other mountain wildlife such as sabre cats, wolves and bears may be roaming the area as well.

Notable items

  • An Apprentice-locked chest with random loot.
  • A coin purse.
  • Venison Stew in the cooking pot.

Tips

Frost trolls hit hard and regenerate, so fire is your best friend – fitting, since the tower already has a fireplace going. If you get ice wraiths instead, they are fast and hard to see against the snow, so keep your back to a wall. The lock on the chest is only Apprentice level, so even a beginner with a handful of lockpicks can crack it. Afterwards, grab the stew: you have earned a hot meal up here.

Good to know

The still-burning fire hints that the trolls or wraiths moved in quite recently, and that the previous residents’ story ended abruptly. Skyrim loves a bit of environmental storytelling with a grim punchline.
