The Affairs of Hagravens is a feud between two very unpleasant neighbours. Deep in Blind Cliff Cave in the Reach, the hagraven Melka has been locked in a cage by her rival Petra, who took over Melka’s tower, Blind Cliff Bastion. Melka would very much like out – and very much like Petra dead. Helping her is one of the easiest ways to clear the dungeon.
How to start
- Travel to Blind Cliff Cave and make your way through to Blind Cliff Bastion.
- On the way in you pick up on the conflict between the two hagravens.
- Inside the bastion, Melka sits in an unlocked cage, begging to be released. Talk to her and the quest begins.
Walkthrough
Free Melka
Open Melka’s cage. She explains, in her own charming way, that Petra imprisoned her and stole her tower, and she wants revenge. Melka does not attack you at any point during the quest.
Kill Petra
Head deeper into the bastion with Melka. Petra and her minions are no match for her, so the fight becomes much easier with an angry hagraven on your side. Help out as you like and make sure Petra goes down. Do not kill Petra before freeing Melka, or the quest cannot be completed.
Collect your reward
Once Petra is dead, speak to Melka. She thanks you and hands over her staff, the Eye of Melka.
Choices and consequences
After receiving the reward you can leave Melka to enjoy her reclaimed home – or take advantage of her trust and strike her down. A few power attacks while she is unsuspecting usually do the job. Either way, the quest is already complete.
Rewards
- Eye of Melka – a unique staff that casts fireballs and needs fewer soul gems than usual to recharge.
- The book 2920, vol 04 – Rain’s Hand, found on Petra’s body.
- The normal loot of Blind Cliff Cave and Blind Cliff Bastion.
Tips and notes
- Freeing Melka first is both the quest’s requirement and the smart tactical move; letting the hagravens fight each other saves you a lot of healing potions.
- Hagravens are tough spellcasters, so even with Melka’s help, bring healing and some ranged damage.
- The Reach is full of Forsworn and hagraven lairs; this is one of the few where a hagraven ends up as your (temporary) ally.
