Jiub is a Dunmer ghost wandering the Soul Cairn (Dawnguard), and Elder Scrolls veterans will recognise him at once. He was the fellow prisoner on the boat that brought the Nerevarine to Morrowind. He later became a saint famous for clearing cliff racers out of Vvardenfell. These days he is a slightly pompous author who has lost his notes, and he will gladly tell you so.
Where to find them
Jiub drifts around the Soul Cairn, muttering about his writing. When you first meet him, he doesn’t realise he is dead and believes he is locked in some prison.
Quests
He starts Impatience of a Saint. You have to sit through a long and very proud account of his life. After that, he asks you to find the ten pages of the first volume of his memoir, which he dropped when he fell into the Cairn and which are now scattered across the wasteland. Bring all of them back and he thanks you with the only copy of the finished volume, plus a parting gift he no longer needs as a spirit.
Personality & relationships
Jiub is vain, touchy and easily annoyed, especially when someone suggests his 26-volume epic could use a shorter title. Underneath that, he is honest about his past. He admits he killed for money to pay for a skooma habit and makes it clear this had nothing to do with any glamorous guild. His career ended when he went after a House Redoran official whom a Morag Tong assassin had also been hired to kill. The rival got there first and alerted the guards, so Jiub walked straight into a trap. He was tried and sent to prison in Vivec City.
Released in 3E 427, he decided to make amends by hunting cliff racers. He claims he killed every last one, including 76 in a single two-day fight against a whole nest. The Tribunal Temple made him a saint, and he even had a festival named after him, Saint Jiub’s Fair. Later he moved to Kvatch in Cyrodiil to write in peace. When the Oblivion Crisis reached the city in 3E 433, a dremora used a black crystal on him and his soul ended up in the Cairn, where he has been for over 200 years. Strangely, he now enjoys the quiet.
Good to know
He uses his original voice from Morrowind. His boast about wiping out the cliff racers is a little exaggerated: Mjoll the Lioness mentions hunting them in Morrowind with her father, and that can’t have been very long ago.
