Falmer Armor is the ugly-but-practical heavy armor of the Falmer, built from chaurus shell and scavenged scraps. It’s an early-to-mid game set: the four pieces give 65 armor, with a decent cuirass (31) but a flimsy helmet (10). Compared with Wolf Armor it’s almost identical apart from the helmet, and it sits below Dwarven Armor.
How to get it
You can’t craft Falmer Armor, and oddly enough the Falmer themselves rarely hand you a full set – they mostly carry the shield, and those of level 22 or higher add the helmet. The full suit sits in two fixed spots instead.
The easier one is Mzinchaleft: deep in Mzinchaleft Depths a complete set, helmet included, lies on a table behind an expert-locked gate. Bring good lockpicking skills or a pile of picks, and note that it respawns after 30 days. The second set is in Blackreach, inside a Falmer hut in the southernmost corner, to the right of the entrance to the Raldbthar Deep Market.
Tempering uses Chaurus Chitin, which you’ll harvest anyway from the chaurus that guard Falmer nests.
Is it worth wearing?
Weight is the nice surprise: four pieces come to just 33, which is very light for heavy armor. The weak helmet drags the total down, so plenty of players mix the cuirass, gauntlets and boots with a better helmet from another set – you’ll lose any Matching Set bonus, but the numbers come out ahead.
Long term it’s outclassed by Orcish Armor and everything above it. With Dawnguard installed, Falmer also have stronger gear: Falmer Hardened Armor and the even better Falmer Heavy Armor, which reaches Ebony-level protection.
Good to know
- None of the pieces can be forged.
- The Falmer Boots look more like greaves and leave the feet bare, yet still sound like boots on stone.
- The Falmer Helmet takes only the hair slot, so it can be worn together with a circlet.
- The set includes a Falmer Shield with 28 armor, carried by melee Falmer.

Crafting and upgrades
