Giant

Giants in Skyrim are peaceful herders – until you get too close. Where giant camps are, why they launch you into orbit and how to beat them.

Giants wander the tundra with their mammoth herds and mostly want to be left alone. Walk too close to their camp, though, and you’ll get a warning stomp – ignore it and one club swing may send you on a trip to the clouds.

Where to find them

Giant camps are found on the tundra of Whiterun Hold, the snowfields of the Pale and the warmer parts of Eastmarch, usually with a couple of mammoths nearby. Known camps include Bleakwind Basin, Sleeping Tree Camp, Steamcrag Camp and Talking Stone Camp – and one lonely giant even lives down in Blackreach. Jarls sometimes post bounties on a giant that has been harassing people and livestock.

Leave them alone?

Giants are neutral. They only attack if you threaten them or come too close, so you can usually walk past. Their camps often hold a chest and mammoth cheese, which makes them tempting targets.

Abilities & attacks

  • Heavy club swings
  • Ground stomp that knocks you down
  • Huge health pool

How to beat it

Giants are a fixed level 32, so they are brutal early on and get easier as you level. At low level: keep your distance and use bows or spells from high ground giants can't reach. Later: stay mobile, attack after its swing and never stand still in front of it. Their club shockwaves count as magic, so wards and the Atronach perk help. Followers will draw its attention.

Loot & harvestables

Giant's Toe
Leveled gold
Assorted hides, gems and soul gems
Mammoth Cheese (at camps)

Lore & trivia

Giants keep mammoths much like Nord farmers keep cows. Very little is known about their culture, and in Skyrim they never speak.
