Morthal is the capital of Hjaalmarch, a small town built on wooden walkways among the misty marshes of north-western Skyrim. It is quiet, damp and a little eerie – and its people are suspicious of outsiders, magic and, frankly, each other.
Highlights
- Highmoon Hall – the seat of Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone, who claims to see visions in her dreams.
- The Moorside Inn – the town’s tavern.
- Falion’s house – home of the wizard Falion, whom many locals distrust. He can help those suffering from a particular undead affliction.
- The guardhouse – where you will find Benor, eager for a brawl.
Quests
Morthal’s big mystery is “Laid to Rest”: a house has burned down with a mother and daughter inside, and the townsfolk have very different ideas about what really happened. The answer is darker than a simple fire.
Good to know
With Hearthfire, you can buy land from the jarl and build Windstad Manor in the marshes nearby.
