Chaurus are armored, bug-like creatures the size of a large dog, kept and bred by the Falmer. They spit poison from range and bite hard up close. The larger Chaurus Reaper is the nastier version, and the Dawnguard add-on brings the flying Chaurus Hunter, which spits faster and from further away. The biggest Reaper in the game waits in a nest beneath Frostflow Lighthouse during “Frostflow Abyss”.
Where to find them
Falmer-infested caves and Dwemer ruins, and in large numbers in Blackreach. Chaurus Reapers also turn up in the marshes near Solitude and Morthal. Their nests hold pods you can harvest for Chaurus Eggs, while the bodies give Chaurus Chitin – used to improve Falmer weapons and armor.
Abilities & attacks
- Poison spit that drains health over a few seconds – several chaurus stack it fast
- Poisonous pincer attacks
- Reapers can curl up and look like a Falmer chest until disturbed
How to beat it
Close the distance quickly so it stops spitting, or use cover between shots. Resist Poison helps a lot. Where you see chaurus, Falmer are rarely far away – deal with the quieter targets first.
